The Peace Silver Dollar is the successor of the Morgan Silver Dollar, minted in two periods of 1921-1928 and then in 1934-1935. The Peace dollar is expressed as the first coin to directly depict its purpose. The Peace Dollar was introduced to promote peace after the horrific World War I.
The design of the coin was determined from a competition which was won by Anthony De Francisci, an Italian sculptor, who depicted Lady Liberty wearing a radiate crown modeled by his wife, Teresa De Francisci.
